I was hired on short term contract at a large company through a consulting firm (4 months). My contract was terminated today because My wife and I are expecting our first child within that time period and I was planning on being present for my first child's birth. My plan was to take between 1-3 days off depending on the health of the baby. Do I have any legal recourse?

Contractors are not employees. Had you been an employee, the result might have been different in some circumstances.

Many companies have policies with short term contractors and/or newly hired employees that no timeoff is allowed within the first x days. This is legal if the company applies it to all situations and doesn't just single out specific instances.

Many short term contracts are just that. Short projects that need to be done ASAP and truly NO (personal) downtime is put into the schedule.

However, if you have a true written contract, I would suggest going over that and seeing if there is anything in there that addresses this. You can also always have a local attorney review it.
