I started a managers job in NC in August 2008. The company paid a portion of the cost to relocate my family from AL. We purchased a home in NC. After 5 months of employment they terminated my employment based on "performance". At no time did anyone tell me that there were any problems with my performance. The termination came as a total shock to me. I am not able to collect unemployment in NC because I have not worked in the state for at least 6 months. The company also changed health insurance on 01/01/2009. I was told that my family is not covered on the new health plan due to my termination date of 12/29/08 although I am being paid through 01/03/09. We have to wait for the paperwork to be mailed to us then sign up under COBRA. We will not be covered until the COBRA is entered into the system. It will then be retroactive to 01/01/09. At that time we can file past claims - in the meantime we have to pay the full amount out of pocket. Today I paid out over $200 on medication for my daughter - with the insurance it would have been $10. Do we have any type of case?

I am so sorry for your situation. However you have no case. In an "at will" enviroment you can be fired with or without warnning or cause. Unless you have a cba or employment contract that says otherwise.
