My brother is being accused of stealing from his old work. He has not been charged but current employees there are giving him updates and they say the manager believes that he took 48 items from the store totaling around 8000 dollars, so im assuming the charge would be grand larceny. He has never been in trouble in his life. If he is brought up on charges does being a first time offender play a huge part in his sentencing? How often does a case get pleaded out to just probation (no jail time)if he agrees to repay everything? And finally does the company he works for have any say in his sentencing. Meaning, if he contacts the company after he is arrested and says ill pay you back plus all lawyer fees you incurred are they allowed to drop charges or once they file charges is it up to the state. by the way. Overall im wondering is he most likely going to serve time or is cases like this usually pled down to a misdameanor with only probation.
