Shoplifting, Larceny, Robbery, Theft First Time Offender

I am so uterally emarassed by this already. But my court date is a month away and I need some comforting answers now. Considering I have post partum depression! I was shopping at the store and yes I should have known better but I wanted a belt on my dress so I took a belt off another shirt and wrapped it around the dress I was buying I did indeed buy about 65.00 $ worth of merchandise. But when I was leaving they said I stole the belt and that the shirt was to no value without the belt so they charged me with the full value of the shirt which was 21.99!! I live in Colorado and I have nothing on my record except traffic offenses. I am sooooo scared I just had a baby and I really dont want this on my record. I am in college and I am going to be a paralegal nobody wants to hire a theif. Is there anyway I can make it so this does not go on my record? I can not afford a lawyer so what do I do?? I am mortified and scared!!!
 
But in colorado when you plead not guilty and your found guilty you get the maximum penalty. If they wont give me diversion am I able to change my plea. Do you think you can give me the number so I can take an anti theft class
 
No! it does not work that way. By pleading not guilty your biding your time to make this plea deal through your Public Defender. This does not work as you say that would be unlawful. Do as I said plead not guilty and request public defender. Talk the PD about Diversion. In meantime send me a PM and I will give you the email to the Director of an Anti Shoplifting program this site recommends
