I live in Virginia and was stupid and decided to shoplift at Target. I have never been in trouble with the law before and as soon as i was caught I learned my lesson and have not stolen since. I was with 2 other people and our total together was $297, but my merchandise didn't even equal $100. Because we were together they added the totals and I was charged with a felony offense. I went to jail for a few hours and got out on a bond. I was wondering if anyone knew what most likely will happen. I am in the middle of hiring an attorney, but I am really nervous i could get jail time even though this is my first offense. I have already had to pay a lot of money and court fees and lawyers fees are going to cost me a lot so what would be the most the judge would probably charge me with?

Yes seek an Attorney as a felony charge could mean prison. I would also suggest you enroll (now before court) into an Anti Shoplifting course. This will show Judge remorse which is always agood thing.
