Shoplifting, Larceny, Robbery, Theft First time petty theft offense

So i was arrested in ca for petty theft, merchandise is worth less than $100(they did all the paperwork and such inside the store and i was not fingerprinted). I have a court date set for next week. Is it easier to plead guilty? Will i have to do jail time? This is my first offense and other than this my record is clean. Approximately how much would the fine be? Is there any way to have this offense expunged from my record? Will they take my fingerprints at all? What is the process? I am very nervous about this whole process, outcome and consequences. Help and advice please!
