Shoplifting, Larceny, Robbery, Theft First Time Shoplifting Offense

I was caught shoplifting at my local Walmart by an LP. I cooperated well with him and didn't cause any issues. After being taken to a private room a police officer came and gave me a paper citing me to court next week. I know I'm not going to expect any jail time considering it's my first offense and the amount stolen was under $100. Also, I have a completely clean record. I also know I should get an attorney so the judge knows I'm taking this seriously, but I can't afford one. Will an attorney be offered to me when I go to court and will I be able to talk to them without the hearing being scheduled to another day? I know I'm supposed to plead not guilty but will that help my situation? I kind of admitted to the crime to the police officer and LP because they asked me small questions. So will that affect anything? And is there any way to avoid going to court?
I am from the state of Ohio by the way.

Being unable to afford an attorney is not the same is being eligible for a public defender. I suggest you contact the public defender's office and inquire about the eligibility requirements.

No, there's no way of avoiding court. You committed the crime, now you have to experience the consequences.

I am a Retail Theft consultant and answer questions like yours daily. First off it was unwise to name store on public forum. Next what you do is plead NOT guilty and request public defender. You will NOT likely get this resolved that day. The Judge will advise you how and when to contact Public defender. Once you meet this lawyer you two can discuss your options. Be sure to ask about ACd or Diversion as plea option

No, there is no way to avoid going to court.
1) Go to court, plead not guilty & ask IF they will appoint you a public defender.
2) Ask your public defender (lawyer) what your options are. (ask about ACD & Diversion)

Do not steal again.
