Shoplifting, Larceny, Robbery, Theft firt time being in trouble with the law. help please

OK I am an 18 yr old college male and I got arrested this past Thursday for I don't know what. I was working at Wal-Mart in Schererville, IN as a cashier and as I was going to lunch I was called back to the personal office. I went back there and I was told to follow my manager and I did. I was in a room with my manager and two other women from the corporate office I believe. I was in the office to be investigated because there was money loss and my name came up. I admitted to taking the money from the registers I was at. I have been taking the money for about 3 weeks to a month. I took a grand total or approx. $950.00. I was not given any paper work or anything from Wal-Mart they contacted the police and I was arrested by the Schererville, IN police. I was not finger printed by the police I have no paper work from the police such as a police report and so on. All I was told was that it was a misdemeanor not a felony and I was released that night on my own recognizance due to Lake County Jail not being able to admit me because I have a semi case of Swine Flu. This is my first time being arrested for anything I have had a clean record my whole life. I have a lot of questions as to all of this so if anyone could please help me I would dearly appreciate that. Am I looking at jail time? Is there anything I can do to not get jail time? What am I looking at for sentence? How come I was not told what I was being arrested for when I was arrested? What class misdemeanor do you think I have off the top of your head? How come I was not given a police report or anything from the PD? How come I was not finger printed? Why didn't I take a mugshot? I don't know if Wal-Mart pressed charges against me or not. How would I know if they did? please answer these to the best of your knowledge this is the first time i have been arrested like i said. Thank You for your time.
 
I dont see how this is misdemeanor when any theft is a felony in your state. Anyhow jail is option and dollar amount is high. You should start calling Lawyers and find out who offers free consultation. Take them up on it. It might also help if you enrolled in an Anti Shoplifting course. Do this before court. This will show Judge remorese they always like that. I can recommend such a course offer by NASP
 
ok what am i looking at for a sentence? is there anything else i could do to get probation and or community service?
