I live in Texas. Is it legal to be forced to speak spanish to a customer just because I know how? i work in an English speaking nationwide company. I am Hispanic but I am not getting paid any more for being bilingual, so I mentioned that. Human Resources told me that was my job so I feel Im being bullied to do so or risk losing my job. There is nothing in company handbook that states anything about that.

Yes, it is legal. You are required to do what your employer tells you to do or face the consequences. (unless you have a binding employment contract that notes you do not have to speak Spanish to any customers) You do not have to be paid anything additional for this.

How would anyone know that you speak anything BUT English?

Why would anyone, including your employer presume you are HISPANIC?

And, even IF you are HISPANIC, why would anyone presume EVERY HISPANIC person speaks anything but English?

Hint, less is always MORE.
