This person has no criminal record and the police ivestigator called her and said the owner of the restaraunt where she worked is filing charges on her for forging one of her checks and cashing it for $10,000.00. He also said if she cooperated with him and did not seek an attorney he would have her come in to book her and she could possibly get only probation for her actions.
Can the investigator do this? Should she get a lawyer? She is guilty.

SHE should not talk to an investigator or anyone else. SHE should talk to a lawyer immediately and follow their lead. You have the right to remain silent. USE IT.

She needs to STOP absolutely and permanently until she is represented by counsel.

Hear Your rights they are read this way on purpose:

YOU HAVE THE RIGHT TO REMAIN SILENT

ANYTHING YOU SAY CAN AND WILL BE USED AGAINST YOU IN A COURT OF LAW.

It isn't an accident that there is no talk of NOT using what you say against you. Get an attorney, say NOTHING else. Good luck.
