In May 2002, my ex husband and I purchased a mobile home through Oakwood Homes. We seperated in November of 2002 and ultimately the home was repossesed in April of 2003. I have since gotten remarried and now my husband and I want to buy a new home. I pulled my three credit reports knowing that the Oakwood would be on there. There was also another mortgage under Vanderbilt Mortgage Co. with an account opened date in 7/2000. Knowing that I had only had the 1 mortgage that was opened in 5/2002 I disputed this account as " Not Mine " with Equifax and Experian. When the investigation was complete Equifax stated that the account belonged to me. Experian however was able to find out that this mortgage was actually the same Oakwood account. Experian has also noted this on my Credit report saying Original Creditor Oakwood Homes. So I called Experian, Transunion, and Equifax to find out the removal dates on the Oakwood and Vanderbilt. Experian only had the Vanderbilt account and the removal date for this is 9/2009, Transunion had both the Oakwood and the Vanderbilt so I disputed this as being duplicated on my report. The Oakwood is reported to be removed in 9/2009, and the Vanderbilt in 11/2009. Once I got to Equifax is where the problems begin. I am currently in another dispute with them over the Vanderbilt account due to the fact that they told me the reported date of removal is not until 2017. That would mean this account will have been on my credit file for 14 years. The reasoning Equifax has given me is that Vanderbilt is reporting my status as an open account " Pays As Agreed " But Vanderbilt is reporting to Transunion and Experian that the account is closed and in collections. There has never been any type of payment to Vanderbilt on this account. I didnt even know who these people were until June of this year. When I recently tried to apply for a mortgage it came back that the home was repossesed in 11/2007 and charged off in 6/2009. This home was repossesed in 4/2003 by Oakwood Mobile Homes. Taking the advise of my Mortgage Lender I have filed a complaint with our States Attorney Generals Office. I dont understand how they can report to one agency that the account is open and is Pays as Agreed but report to the other two agencies it is closed and in collections. Its either opened or closed it cant be both. I am at my witts end and filing dispute after dispute with Equifax is getting me no where. All of the Oakwood and Vanderbilt accounts on my credit reports are due for removal in the next few months except that one. What do I do????

Have you tried to contact Vanderbilt Mortgage? They would be able to send to Equifax the corrected info. Other than that, you might send Equifax a copy of the other credit info stating that what action has been taken.

I think something else you are not understanding is that the Vanderbilt Mortgage is you debt. They obviously bought the mortgage from Oakwood.

I know they bought the loan from oakwood. I have called Vanderbilt and they are no help. My mortgage lender told me to call Vanderbilt and ask for a Full transaction history report on this account from the date it was opened till now. Vanderbilt told me that the account was opened in 2004 and no payments were ever made so there is no history on this account.
