I have a friend that was recently caught on tape selling Oxycontin pills at his job in a department store. He was caught on tape twice, selling 1 pill each time, probably 80 mg tablets. The police came to him at work and charged him; he was also fired on the spot. He is not a large drug dealer, rather, he knows the bigger game people and friends often go through him to get what they need, as the bigger dealers are comfortable going through him. He has only sold in very small quantities, functioning more as a go-between. We believe he was caught as the result of selling to a suspected snitch. My question is what are his options? What can he expect as far as punishment (jail time, probation, etc.)? Can he expect the police to ask him to give up names of the people that sell larger quantities? If he does reveal names (I believe he knows at least 2 people higher up on the chain, possibly the doctor that supplies the dealers.), what can he expect? Is it a good idea to offer these names if the police do not ask?

Please help, my friend is very scared and I want to help calm him down; right now not knowing what to expect is the worst part. Thank you.

He needs to consult an attorney ASAP. I would not recommend that he agree to anything until he has had a chance to talk to an attorney - but, that decision is up to him ... they MIGHT make him a tantalizing offer, but he should still run it by an attorney.

His options will vary widely by state and jurisdiction, and they may offer him nothing.

He needs to consult an attorney yesterday.

I forgot to mention that this is occurring in PA. Thanks for your reply, Carl. I appreciate the quick response and would still appreciate other opinions as well, especially if you might be able to direct any of my specific questions. Thanks!
