I work at a restaurant where a friend of mine was recently fired. The general manager pulled me aside to ask if I had heard from my friend and I said had a brief conversation in which the manager told me she had been fired. I replied to my manager and told him that she probably did not care either way and walked out of the office.
On the next schedule, the amount of days I was scheduled to work was reduced to two when I am normally scheduled five to six. When I asked the manager who writes the schedule why my hours had been cut so drastically, he told me that when the general manager had asked me about my friend he determined that I did not care about my job and that my hours should be cut.
Is there anything that can legally be done about this because 1) I don't think my GM was in the right to question me about my friend, and 2) because I was punished for expressing an opinion.
