In June this year (2009) I loaned a friend (someone I had been dating previously) $3000. He earns double what I make in a year but had not anticipated some unexpected expenses. He agreed verbally to repay the whole amount within 2 months. Despite frequent e-mails being sent to him and numerous telephone calls and voicemails and text messages, he has yet to pay back a cent of what he owes me. Clearly, the friendship has degenerated now as I do not trust him and am saddened that he has forced me into a difficult financial situation.
What is my recourse to get the money repaid. I have printed copies of all e-mails and have records of the two checks that I gave him that he cashed. I also have records of all phone calls and text messages to him regarding repayment of this loan.
Any advice at this point would be greatly appreciated.

I would send him a letter giving him 10 days to pay you or you are suing. You have perfect evidence to prove this was a loan and how much you gave him. Sue him, once you win, use the process to find his bank accounts and work, garnish his bank accounts and his pay until you are paid off.

If he won't repay the full amount immediately, at least see if he will agree to make a partial payment. Obtaining anything will help a lot to show that he acknowledges the debt and that it is not a gift, which would be his argument in court.
