Yesterday I received a ticket in Caswell County for 73 in a 55. I was told I have to appear in court because it was more than 16 miles over the limit. I am from Virginia and am unfamilar with NC laws. I have never had a speeding ticket and the only mark on my 22 year driving record is a fender bender from three years ago (failure to maintain control). The accident was in Virginia.

Should I call the Clerk's office? What is a Prayer for Judgment and do I qualify since I am from Virginia? Should I bring a certified copy of my Virginia driving record to court? My court date is a week and a half away.

Any information is appreicated. Thanks.

I'd just pay to have a lawyer from that court take care of the case. It will save you from having to travel and the cost is probally the same as the travel expenses

A PJC will only work if you are a resident of NC, it esentially defers insurance points and has no effect on the DMV points that will be reported back to VA.

It wouldn't hurt to call the clerks office to get an idea what you are in for.

Since you are risking a licence suspension (15 over in NC), a lawyer is good insurance. He can probably negotiate down to a 9 over.
