I had a birthday party and Saturday and we purchased a small keg for some of my friends and myself (I turned 22). I invited a bunch of my friends, most of which were over 21 and they used the keg. There were some people who were not 21 years of age who also came and we asked them to refrain from using the keg as we didn't want any issues... We used special colored cups so we knew who was to have access to the keg.

Many of them may have brought their own alcohol or showed up already intoxicated. Needless to say; we had 5 undercover Michigan State police officers knock on the door, one of the people opened the door and they walked in. They then sought me out and informed me that since there were drunks kids under 21 in my home, and alcohol in my home, I would have to appear in court for Furnishing Alcohol to Minors.

They went as far as to say that since one of my roommates is 20, if he comes home drunk and they bust him and there is alcohol in my house (even if he hasn't had any of mine), I am responsible. They found (to my knowledge) about 6 intoxicated kids under 21, out of the 25 people at the party.

What do you suggest I do? I don't have a lot of money to go and take this to court. I'm going to contact the free legal aid people on campus as well. Any suggestions? the infraction is MCL 436.1701
