garnishment payment

Hi my name is Jo. I have one question concerning garnishments. Is it legal to take payment for one garnishment out of more than one persons pay?
My husband and I both recieved court papers at our place of work for the same person, for the same total.

Do the two amounts equal to the total of the debt owed? If not, it might be double dipping.

The total is the amount that is owed in full on both sets of the documents. The person is an ex landlord and she is trying to get the whole amount so she took it to both of our work places. I just need to know if the payments can come out of both checks or just one if they have alredy started to take out of one and not the other?
