getting billed for a missed appointment

I recently received a bill from my dentist charging me $50.00($25.00 each person) for a dental appointment that both my wife and son missed. Can they get away with this? Charging someone without exactly providing a service?

Yes. And they probably had you sign something acknowledging their cancellation policy. A lot of offices will charge you $25.00 for missed appointments or appoinments not rescheduled within 24 hours.
