Shoplifting, Larceny, Robbery, Theft Getting caught after leaving the store

My friend told me today that she beeped as she exited a NY Urban Outfitters. Instead of stopping to get check, she merely kept walking as though she didn't hear it and nobody followed after her. I was wondering whether or not she can have charges pressed against her if they never had any physical evidence against her. Also, I was wondering the what the likelihood was of that Urban Outfitters taking the time to ID her and file reports against her. She said there probably wasn't any evidence caught on film and it seems very unlikely that she'll be caught. She's still a minor and only took about $20 in merchandise.

Wow thats a lot of "what ifs". Simply put if the store has evidence of theft, video, eye witness, etc they can pursue charges. There are many ways in which a store may ID a person as well. She and you (if you were with her) will need to look over your shoulder for next year

Take this as a lesson to stop stealing. The chances of your friend getting caught after that fact is slim to none. The store alarms go off for many reasons. I would not continue to steal as the more you steal, the higher your chances of getting caught are.

The consequences of shoplifting are fines, civil demand, jail time, store ban, a criminal record and many more. Plus you will be humiliated and your family and friends will always look at you as a thief.

Good luck.
