Shoplifting, Larceny, Robbery, Theft Go caught shoplifting

My roommate and I were caught shoplifting, they did paper work and told us that we will receive a fine. They did not call the police and nothing more was really said. We're both 21 and I wanted to know if this will be put on our record? What else may happen?

No Police means no record outside of store. What will happen? You will get a Civil Demand letter in mail asking for anywhere from $50.00 to $1000.00 depending on your state and dollar amount of theft

those letters are bs. meijer arrested me for shoplifting in '06 and threatened that we'd hafta pay meijer a $1000 dollar fine. i later consulted an attorney who said that's illegal for them to do, and you don't have to pay it. outside of anything decided in court, which if the police weren't called, you'll be fine.

They are legal long as restitution is not sought in criminal case. Ignoring the letter can carry severe consequences
