Shoplifting, Larceny, Robbery, Theft going to court without attorney?

Hi, I got caught shoplifting at walmart

and I got the letter from court with the date of my trial

this is my first time, and I truly think that I made very stupid mistake
I would do anything to pay what Ive done

however, I am international student from another country

this criminal record will affect getting visa very seriously

all my family is depending a lot on me, and I cannot put them down

I dont know if I should plead guilty or not guilty
store name probably has my video recording evidence, so I dont know if i should plea not gulity and
do plea bargain

also...

my court date is jan, 15th
however, I havent found any attorney or lawyer to handle my case

I dont have enough money to pay them
and I was looking for public defender, but for some reason, i couldnt.

I was thinking about going to court alone
and admit what I did, and ask for diversion program or something

is that a bad idea?
and does anyone have experince with this?
give me some tips please
