Good Sound Advice

I am a teacher in a 4th grade environment. The last day of this school year an upset parent invited me out to the parking lot a couple times. I think when he realized that I was not going to take him up on his invitation he struck me with an open hand. This parent was upset because he felt his child should have been given an award that he was not. The only thing I said to this individual was that I did not want to have anything to do with an altercation.

There were several witnesses in the classroom.

The news media has been calling my house wanting me to make a statement. I have refused.

The principal apologized to me on the day it happened. However, nobody from the school board has contacted me.

Is there any good sound advice available in this situation?

This deserves not only a good formal complaint with the school board but also the filing of a police report against the parent.

I DO NOT recommend a formal complaint to the school board. If you want to address the school board about the incident, then I suggest you contact your union.
