Moved in to a BEAUTIFUL home on the 14th of March. Signed a month-to-month rental agreement with certain stipulations. The landlord lives in the same little 'old resort' area as I do. Matter of fact, he's one of my 14 neighbors in this complex of 14. Anyway, I started fishing yesterday at 7:30 A.M. after I got off work at 7:00 A.M. with one of my neighbors. At 9:30 A.M., my landlord approached me and my neighbor and told me that he was sleeping with his window open and if I "didn't keep my mouth shut, I'd have to find a new fishing ground". He also told me, "I'm the owner of this property and what I say goes". I advised him that not only do I pay rent for this property, but, he should also use a little more discretion and take me off to the side. Don't try and punk me in front of others. About an hour later when I was in my home, he sent another resident to my back door who knocked and gave me a 30 day notice to vacate.

I just moved here. This landlord gave me a month to month contract which I signed. Nothing is listed about fishing during certain hours and when I told him that he wasn't going to micro-manage me, I got this notice.

What do I do?

Is this little 'Hitler', right "legally" in telling me to move 5 weeks after I just moved in? Should I get a lawyer and would that help? Don't I have the RIGHT to tell him to go screw himself if I haven't broken my lease in any way shape or form?

Thanx for all your time and hard work in advance.

What state do you live in?

Typically a month to month tenancy can be terminated with a 30 day notice on the part of either party (i.e., the tenant or landlord). No reason for this termination is required (which is why many tenants and landlords list this month to month tenancy).

In my state (Georgia), the landlord (me) has to give a 60 day notice which is why I asked what state you live in.

I live in California. Took all my $$ to move and now I have to move again cause this guy did a sugar coat bait n switch?

Bullshit!!!

I'm hoping to get an attorney for a feww hundred, (maybe $700.00) and have a judge tell him that he see's right through his shit and then give me a few more months to live here while also telling him that he's gonna have to pay for me to move.

Unless you have lived in place over a year 30 days is all that is required in CA. Where this is clearly unfair it is not illegal as Gail mentions. This is one of the benefits of having a lease where you rent they cannot do this
