Shoplifting, Larceny, Robbery, Theft got caught but didnt get caught

i went to this big retail store stole like $37-$40 worth of murchandise got caught but they didnt take me to the back of nowhere they just took the stuff back and told me i couldnt come back what supposed to happen now i didnt have to sign anything the police wasnt called and they didnt take down any of my information what happens now?

You may have gotten caught by someone who wasn't Loss Prevention. In the company I work for, only Loss Prevention associates can detain and have someone arrested. Management and sales associates are not allowed to confront shoplifters.

The OP was not arrested and not really detained. He was stopped asked to give back merchandise and let go with warning. Where this is probably frowned on my most major retailers it really doesnt matter much in this case.
