Hello, I was arrested for shoplifting around $150 worth of stuff last month and now I am required to go to court in a month. I have a clean record for the most part, just a speeding ticket from last year. I was wondering what my options are for minimizing the punishment as much possible? Thank you!

You need to get a lawyer & talk only to the lawyer. If you can't afford one, ask the court if they will appoint you a public defender. The lawyer/PD will get you the best outcome possible. You might ask the lawyer/PD about ACD or diversion as options.

You most likely will also be receiving a civil demand letter from the store requesting a payment. Here is a link for your review re civil demand letters Ca. for informational purposes. It is your decision whether to pay the civil demand. If you don't pay, there "could be" additional consequences though.

Your chances of minimizing the damage are excellent. This is a very petty offense. In my area the DA will only handle this as an infraction (like a ticket) and it gets processed through the traffic court. The court will not want to waste it's time with you.
The worst if it will be any fines you are ordered to pay.... And you are not required to pay anything at all unless the court orders it, no matter how nasty the letters sound.
