I'm from Los Angeles, California. I got caught shoplifting yesterday (regret it so much) and the merchandise exceeded $400. The police said it's a felony. I am 17 years old and I'm turning 18 in April. The PO said come back to the Police Station on Tuesday to talk to the detective. I'm assuming they will assign court date there. I don't know anything about the law, this is my first time getting arrested. They said since I'm a Juvenile, they will let me go by my parents and they did.

Questions:
1. Is there a chance I will go to Juvenile Hall, and for how long? (I'm so scared).
2. Will this affect my chances of getting financial aid from FAFSA? (I applied for it a week ago and I implied that I've never committed felony).
3. Since this is my first arrest, is there a chance they will go easy on me and say it won't be a felony, and rather be a misdemeanor? (this is what I've heard, I don't even know what misdemeanor is).
4. I'm moving out of state to Texas because of family business at the end of January. Will this affect anything? Do I have to fly out to California if they ever need me again?
5. I heard that Juvenile Record will be sealed if petitioned upon my 18th birthday, is this true? And is it hard to get a felony sealed? How does the process work, and am I screwed for life if they don't seal it?
6. Can I beg the judge to give me a ton of hours of community service instead of getting sent to Juvenile Hall? Is this possible? Will they go easy on me since it's my first arrest?
7. I'm a good student and maintained and maintaining a 4.0 GPA throughout high school, does this matter at all for the judge?
8. Do I need an attorney? How much is it to get an attorney? Is this even likely and help me at all to reduce the record?
9. Is there a chance they will try me as an adult? I really hope they don't..
10. What are some other consequences? I'm so scared and I don't know what to do. I feel like my life is over now..

Please, I don't need any lecture of how stupid this was, I already know it was a huge mistake in which I would never do again..

Thank you for anyone who is willing to help..

Also, will there be a fine? And how much?

I'm so scared since it exceeded the $400 limit. I told them that I stole them, which technically means I admitted I'm guilty? They read me my rights at the police station and they asked me if I wanted to talk about it and they gave me a paper to write on. I admitted I stole them, will this affect me at all? I'm so scared and I don't know what to do.. Please help me with some kind of answers..

1. Is there a chance I will go to Juvenile Hall, and for how long? (I'm so scared).
Yes since this is a felony charge. By yes I mean yes theres a chance
2. Will this affect my chances of getting financial aid from FAFSA? (I applied for it a week ago and I implied that I've never committed felony).
YES!
3. Since this is my first arrest, is there a chance they will go easy on me and say it won't be a felony, and rather be a misdemeanor? (this is what I've heard, I don't even know what misdemeanor is).
Its best to ask your Attorney this but I will guess yes. However this will still give you a theft conviction on your record
4. I'm moving out of state to Texas because of family business at the end of January. Will this affect anything? Do I have to fly out to California if they ever need me again?
That depends on the probation conditions
5. I heard that Juvenile Record will be sealed if petitioned upon my 18th birthday, is this true? And is it hard to get a felony sealed? How does the process work, and am I screwed for life if they don't seal it?
What you heard is a myth. Yes there might be a means to seal your record but certain agencies will still have access to it
6. Can I beg the judge to give me a ton of hours of community service instead of getting sent to Juvenile Hall? Is this possible? Will they go easy on me since it's my first arrest?
Do not! talk to Judge let your Attorney do that
7. I'm a good student and maintained and maintaining a 4.0 GPA throughout high school, does this matter at all for the judge?
Not really read through these forums a lot of them come from persons with high GPA's
8. Do I need an attorney? How much is it to get an attorney? Is this even likely and help me at all to reduce the record?
YES! you need an Attorney you can discuss cost with the Attorney. Get as many free consultations as you can before you decide
9. Is there a chance they will try me as an adult? I really hope they don't..
Yes there is a chance
10. What are some other consequences? I'm so scared and I don't know what to do. I feel like my life is over now..
Criminal record, community service, jail, probation or parole, classes, fines to name a few
Also, will there be a fine? And how much?
That will depend on the charges filed. Ask your Attorney. There will also be Civil charges which could be as high as $1000.00

My parents said they will get me a lawyer after talking to the detective on Tuesday.

I really hope my lawyer can try to drop the felony charge to a misdemeanor..

For this situation, IF I'm sentenced to serve Juvenile hall time, IN YOUR OPINION, how long do you think I will have to stay there?

I'm so scared about everything, I made the stupidest choice which will affect my whole career/future.

I heard a lawyer will cost up to $5,000, is this true?

Ho wlong of a jail sentence (if any) you get depends on the charge. Attorney fees vary based on what they plan to do for you. Set up consultations with several so you and your parents can decide which one you feel is best both price wise and what they intend to do. In mean time have no more conversations with Police without an Attorney present and agree to sign no more documents. You might also consider enrolling in an Anti shoplifting course like one offered by NASP.
