Grand daughter ran away

My 17 and 1/2 year old grand daughter ran away from her mother (my ex step daughter) about 2 months ago. Her mother has had 3 CPS cases from 3 different people in 2016. She ran because her mother took her out of job corp and uses drugs. While at job corp she graduated a year early. She excelled. I don't know where she is now, but she wants to come live at my house. She was living in UT when she left home. I live in WY. I will do anything in my power to keep her safe and away from her mother. She will be 18 in 6 months. What am I looking at bringing her here? I would be harboring a runaway, but it is my grand daughter. I have been told I could be charged with a class 2 misdemeanor. What is the punishment for that in WY and would the court look at it differently due to the circumstances?

Contact a local lawyer and ask about filing an emergency order of guardianship for yoru grandchild.

There MIGHT be some quirk in some counties, if you beat others to the punch.

You also need to know if the girl's name and particulars have officially been filed in NCIS as a runaway.

If not, that MIGHT also be useful.

I see what you're trying to accomplish, and it is very risky, unless a lawyer can get you on "paper".

18 in six months... She is best off to remain home then do what she wants after that. She would be 18 before anything gets through the courts.
Any legal action you want to initiate would have to be done in her home state.
You would be wise to not encourage her to leave the state.
That said, if she has her parents permission then there is no problem. Have you asked?
