Permanent Residency Green Card expired, can i get it renewed

My green card is going to expire at the end of this month as it will be one year since i have been out of U.S. I have been a green card holder for 2.5 years. What will my options be if i want to renew my green card sometime in the future. Can it be done or will i lose the green card forever.

If it can be done, then how? Is there a website that gives this information?

If you remain outside the country for more than 2yrs without having re-entry permit and your green card expires you will be seen to have abandoned your green card status. Get it renewed ASAP if you want to save yourself future headaches when wanting to return later.
