Permanent Residency Green Card Expiry

My wife and I are Green Card holders and we have an American daughter. We were wondering what the law was concerning green card expiry. For family reasons we are thinking of moving back to the UK but want to know how long it takes before the green card expires and are there any steps that can be taken to prolong the expiry process

you always can apply to renew your card. If you move to the UK, you may loose your GC, because if you leave states for more than 6 months, you GC gets cancelled. Why wont you apply for citizenship, you will dual citizenship, and you will be able to live in the UK as long as you want.
