Recently a friend of mine had a dispute with a tenant in my building. I have been informally told that a letter of eviction is on the way. This wasn't my fault! My friend is also a friend of many in the building. However the security and others in the leasing office have decided that I have to leave. (Guilty by association) Keep in mind the fighting happened in the lobby- not at my house at all. From what I am told this guy has been a trouble maker for a while now in the community. If this was the case shouldn't the community have made some type of formal complaint to the "Person" and not to me? Police report or something? If anything let me the tenant be aware that the situations were happening with the assumption that he is a tenant of mine.

So informally I now have 20 days to vacate my apartment- find a a new place to live- and deal with an eviction on my credit. please help someone...

You summed things up very well.

If you don't leave, they'll have to formally bring an eviction proceeding against you.

That's where you get to defend your position.

I left the other stuff out, because that's not the defense you want to muster.

If, on the other hand, that's all you got; better start packing your bags.

The alleged trouble maker was, by your accounts, your guest.

If that's true, you assume responsibility for him.

He acts up, it splatters all over you.

That's not guilt by association, that's assumption of risk. It's your duty to control him, if he's your guest.
