Handicap Placard

I was driving a vehicle in which the person in the vehicle handed me a handacaip placard to get into an event.At the time the placard was handed to me i believed that it was his placard and so did the other three people in the vehicle.Upon arriving at the gate to to get into the arena we were approached by a cop who asked whose placard it belonged to.When the person in the vehicle stated it was his,the officer ran the number and it did not come back under his name.The officer wrote me the citation and it went on my record and i paid the fine.Is the guy who gave me the placard liable for this in a civil court?

No more than he would be for selling you illegal drugs that were found on your person, or a television he had stolen.
