I borrowed some money from a neighbor on loose terms. no contracts, no paperwork. after paying back half, he demanded it all and I didn't have it right away. So he goes to my work, (Comcast), and tells my boss he will cancel there service unless I pay. They just blew him off and said it was a civil matter. This probably hurt my chance of promotions though besides the embarrassment. Do I have any recourse?

Duelling is outlawed, isn't it? Then your recourse is to ask him to kindly keep it private and pay him back as soon as you can.

My employer blew "him" off, not me. They were not very happy with this situation so I think it's a no brainer that this could effect my current and future job status.

Ok, I'm no attorney, that's why I'm here, but a few things come to mind such as slander, emotional distress, defamation of character and harassment. I would think I at least have a base line to start with to sue this idiot.

Once more how is this effecting your job future? Answer it snot as of yet if ever. Until that happens if it happens and if you can prove it. There is no suit

It's only slander if it's not true. Do you owe him money? Yes. (Will he quit Comcast if you don't pay him? Maybe, maybe not - but that's got nothing to do with your reputation.)

Emotional distress is not grounds for a lawsuit. If they did something wrong that CAUSED you emotional distress, you might get damages for distress. But you can't sue someone just because you're distressed.

Defamation of character is just another word for slander and libel. It's not applicable here.

Harassment? Doubt it.

The guy might be an idiot, but there's no law against stupidity.

I appreciate the feedback, however, I don't totaly agree.

I find it hard to believe that someone could go to your employer and intimidate them to get one of there employees to do what they want, could be legal?

If your boss felt intimidated, it's up to him (not you) to consider doing something. But it sounds to me like he didn't feel intimidated. Nor should he have; this wasn't intimidation. The guy is free to withdraw his business from Comcast for whatever stupid reason he likes.
