have a class a misdemeanor charge with a court date end of the month how to find help

I have a class A misdemeanor penalty charge 175.05 "Falsifying Business Records". It was for two gift cards less than 400USD. Still deciding how to find help.

How can I find legal aid? I cannot afford a lawyer. Where can I turn to? My background prior has been 100% clean. I do not want a conviction of a criminal record. First offense, I do not really understand what will happen on my first court date.

Is that the only day? Will it advance? Can I ask for restitution? Their case appears pretty solid against me. Loss Prevention had me write and sign an apology letter. I was arrested and release after paper work and given summons.

Do I need a lawyer or can I rely on a public defendant? How do I find one? What do I do?

You're damn skippy you need an attorney, if you want to minimize this.

First of all, stop talking about this.

Secondly, plead not guilty at your next court date.

Thirdly, hire an attorney.
If you do not have the funds, ask the court to appoint a public defender to represent you.

Make no more statements to anyone.

Forget that crap you may have done or said, prior to this.

Your attorney will instruct you further.

All you do in the interim is wait.

Patience is your friend.

I'm looking at lawyers. I just feel so edgy. I wish someone can tell me what can happen step by step that day.

How do I compare lawyers? I spoke to someone and he said it won't go to trial and he is aiming for disorderley conduct which would be a fine. Am I being convicted that day? It's just so nerve wrecking for me.

But lawyers are still expensive how do I find free aide? What happens if there's a second court date after the summons?
