My husband has a contract that was made for $14k(he installed floors for a job for a general contractor) the General contractor wrote that $7k was paid before the job was done and initialed it then he wrote a date for 3 days later for the remainder of $7k to be paid and he never paid us.

Now we have a job invoice that shows his writing and he initialed it when he paid the first half and he was the one wrote the the final payment date but it shows no initials to show he never paid us. What would be the best course of action to take because the guy keeps saying I don't know what to tell you I don't have the money!!!! So if we had to take him to court what route should we take and with him only initialing it not an actual signature is that enough evidence to show in court?

Unfortunately, the amount is in excess of small claims court so you will have to file in civil court. Hire an attorney to pursue this case. Make sure you present the attorney with all the evidence you have (emails, text messages, phone records, notes, invoices) so s/he can substantiate the case in court. Hopefully, with an attorney involved, the guy will find the money and/or have to give up some of his assets to pay you guys. Hope this helps!
