there is a consent order from 2/2008 for me to provide health insurance to an adult child in college. Insurance company requires documentation from child that she is attending college. child refuses to communicate with me for last 4 years and refused to send documentation so insurance dropped her coverage. ex-wife filed contempt against me for lack of insurance. What is my response to contempt filing?

You relate to the court the subject was unresponsive to insurance company requests for proof of college attendance. You might also obtain a letter from the insurance company substantiating your assertions. Submit that with your response and/or court appearance.

The unresponsive, uncooperative attitude exhibited by your daughter should get you off the hook. Make sure the letter indicates this situation existed over the last four years.

i drafted a response to that affect and filed with court. I was under the impression that the legal rights to support a child ended at 18 years of age nothwithstanding the 08 consent order. The ex refused to acquire the documentation in 07 and the childs insurance was dropped then and i pushed for the insurance to be in effect like i did 6+ months ago with the adult child. thanks for your response.

WOW.
I looked into GA support laws.
There is no general obligation to support a child beyond 18 (or until high school completion), but no more than 20 years old, in exceptional cases.

In order for you to have been victimized like this, they ran this by you and got you to agree to it.

You should have done as Nancy Reagan once said, "Just say no!"

Very sneaky and very low.

In Georgia, both parents are obligated to provide for the support of a child until the child reaches the age of 18, or graduates from high school, whichever is later, but no later than age 20. There is no obligation to support a child in college or post-graduate studies. However, agreements reached in settlement negotiations and included in the final decree of divorce will be enforced by the courts as if it were law.
