1. Is a person/family entitled to heirship on property that they did not know existed?
2. Is there a time limit on claiming heirship to family land?
3. Can someone lose heirship to property that you never knew existed for land?

My grandfather had 5 sibblings and all were heir to family property(no will).
After my grandfather's untimely death, his sibblings claimed complete heirship of the property and none of his children received any property. I have found some land record that show several decedents of my grandfather's sibblings who have claimed heirship of this property. (so far found (500 +) acres where family ownership dates back to 1860's to early 1900). property division did not include my grandfathers

We did not know and neither did our mother know this land existed (she was a child and/or very young when her father died). She never received any property from her father.

Please note that my grandmother was "shunned by her husband's family" after my grandfather died from an accident caused by my grandmother's cousin.
