Shoplifting, Larceny, Robbery, Theft HELP!! 19 year old caught shoplifting in dillards.

I'm 19 years old, college student, with a clear record. I was recently caught shoplifting $48.00 worth of merchandise in store name. I was given a citation and charged with larceny (i live in NC btw). The same day I went home and wrote a heartfelt letter of apology to the manager of the store, and brought it in in person. I do not have the money to pay for a lawyer, and i'm not sure i can even pay a fine. Is there ANYTHING i can do???? I have a court date for may 5th, and is there ANYTHING I can do, such as pay a fine in order to get out of the court date???? Please help me. Also, my parents cannot find out. If they do, I may be taken out of college. They are extremely strict and this would be an absolute disgrace. If i'm 19, they won't send a letter home will they?? ahhhhhh, someone out there help me.

Your letter of Civil Demand will go to the address you gave them. You will have at least two fines one civil th eother will be court fine. There is not likely a means to avoid either fine. If you cannot afford an Attorney request a Public defender you do not want to this without a Lawyer. When you talk to this Lawyer ask if Diversion is available in your case
