Ive been charged for the first time with Petty Thief in California. It was for a $100. My record is COMPLETELY clean. They let me go with a citation and i have to appear in court in two months. And i don't know what to do. Do i need a lawyer? What will happen if i plead guilty? Will i be doing jail time?

Don't plead guilty. Yes, get a lawyer & talk only to the lawyer. You might ask the lawyer about plea options of ACD or Diversion.

I am a retail theft consultant and answer questions like yours daily. The last thing you want to do is walk into court and plead guilty! Plead not guilty and hire a Lawyer or request public defender. When you meet this Lawyer ask about defense and plea options. Bring up ACD or Diversion as possible plea options
