Hi, I have a question and perhaps someone can help me out.

To make a long story short, my young adult had taken a 5.00 object from a store (unknown reasons to me). I believe it may have been a *dare*. Was charged with a criminal citation and released from the store.

Since then, we have received a civil demand for $59.98 which we have paid. We were told a notice would be mailed something to appear in court, also that this was classified as a Class C misdeamnor?

I understand by reading that there was a charge, even though not taken to jail to be fingerprinted etc., this is still an arrest? The police were involved to take a statement.

A lesson was learned the hard way, my only worry is that a record will follow in life.

Does anyone have information or advice to offer?

Unfortunately, not a juvenile. No prior record, no trouble at all. First offense, State of Maryland.

Thank you.

Yes, it is an arrest. I don't know the name in Maryland but ask if he can have, it's possibly called deferred adjudication or adjudication withheld or deferred judgement. It's a way for it to be removed from his record. If you don't have an attorney ask the DA for this.
