I have a credit card company {Providian) that sent my account to a collection attorney in Birmingham, Alabama. I occured this debt when I was hurt in 2000 and was not able to work, contacted the credit card company told them the situation and they said couldn't do anything until I had missed 3 payments, well 3 missed payments later they sent to outside collection, tried to workout payment with them to no avail. Seven years later and lots and lots of interest and late fees a 700.00 debt has turned into 2200.00. Talked to a lady in their collection dept and she had the attitude of a cobra, told her I only got 270 monthly, she said they could take 1800 and some change settlement. Due to this bill and two others due to my injury, I can't borrow any money, I have a friend that said he would give me 750.00 if they would take it. Any responses from the legal eagle about how to handle this I would surely appreciate any help!!!
