Help with lost collections bill

Hello
I've recently had some hardship from being laid off and some bills go to collections. I've called the companies and set up payment plans. However, there is still one that I cannot find. It was financed through PayPal. It was a pay-later sort of thing, and I was making monthly payments, until I couldn't. It completely disappeared from PayPal. So I thought it must be in collections. I called PayPal, they said they couldn't see any info. I checked my credit report to find any company that it could have gone to, but I found nothing that I could not account for. I'm sure in the past I've gotten letters from whatever collection company it went to, but thought it was junk mail and tossed it. Is there any way at all to find out where this debt went so that I can pay it off?

I'm sorry to hear about your employment and financial challenges. What do you mean it was financed through Paypal? If you were making payments on Paypal, the payee should be listed in your transaction history. It is unclear of what you mean about how actual transactions might have disappeared from your Paypal history which, if that was actually the case, it would be very troubling. Are you sure that you made at least one payment? Other than checking all your archived emails and junk mail history, I can't think of another way to find out who the collection agency or the debtor may be. However, there is good reason to believe that they will contact you again shortly if you are unsuccessful with Paypal. Others may have insight. Good luck to you.

Apologies for the lack of details. It was a purchase with a different vendor with the option of financing through PayPal and making monthly payments through PayPal. I can see the payments I've made in the past via history, but the actual vendor company has disappeared from my PayPal dashboard and the option to make payments on that purchase has disappeared, obviously.

What I'm truly afraid of is being taken to court or something due to not being able to find the collection company. I'm certain they did reach out via letters, and I stupidly thought they were junk mail. So it has been months now, which is why I'm nervous.

Thank you for your time!

If you put it on a PayPal payment plan, then you owe PayPal, not the merchant. I would suggest that you contact PayPal directly.

EDIT: I see that you've already contacted PayPal without success. I would contact them again and ask for it to be escalated.

You can check these sites, as they APPEAR to be involved with, and/or actually "buy now, pay later" purveyors.

The Nerdy headline:
PayPal Pay Later plans have zero fees, purchase protection and no interest for Pay in 4, but they lack some consumer-friendly features.
