Help with speed limit sign law

Does anyone know if a speed limit sign has to be cleaned regularly? I got a ticket and the speed limit sign that I was supposed to see is on a dirt road and is brown and black, rather than white and black like it is supposed to be. Do I have a leg to stand on to fight this? Thanks

Take a picture of it. It might not help if you go to court, but it won't hurt.
Sometimes you are expected to know the limit even if there are not signs, such as residential areas, school zones, etc.
