i received a ticket for going 65 in a 55. the posted, locked and estimated boxes are checked, leaving not posted and radar unchecked. comments by officer states that i passed cruiser at 62mph then he clocked me at 65mph for 1/2 mile. when he handed me the ticket all he said was remember: don't pass cruisers. now what isnt on the ticket is the fact that for approx 5 miles he would pull up behind a car, flick on his lights and flash his high beams and as soon as the car got out of his way the lights would go off. this continued car after car until he pulled into the right lane to exit the highway. this is when I pulled up next to him. As soon as our vehicles were side by side he turned on his lights to pull me over. there was no way he clocked me for 1/4 mile.

My question is, what does the locked and estimated boxes mean, and is there anything I can say when I go to court to appeal this citation without pissing off the judge? This happened in Mass.

interesting

isn't it illegal for an officer to use his warning lights like that? here in washington, Im almost positive there is such a law.

goodluck!

Sounds like he was working to get people to observe the "stay in the right lane unless passing" regulation? He gets a gold star from me if this was the case :)

Any chance you were pacing him from behind at 55+ while he was working left lane lurker traffic?

I'd pay attention to the advise to not pass a cruiser, can be taken as sign of disrespect by some. Challenging the officer under these circumstances may not go over well in court either.

There's always a chance to plea down but there may not be much difference for anything less than 10 over. Check the fines at the court. If there isn't much difference, consider it a driving lesson and move on.

Of couse someone who really knows the law and enforcement int the area will know better.
