Hired under False Pretenses

I received an offer letter to join a startup construction company as Operations Manager. The offer letter also provided for performance bonuses. I was verbally told by the Vice President (1 owner) to help get this thing started, and there would be some ownership for me in the future.
I quit a stable - secure corporate engineering position with a huge chemical company for this leap of faith.
Upon arriving I was asked to perform Business Development. I did not have any contacts or training for this position. I did what was asked to help grow the company. Also, the other employees always referred to me as Business Development.
There was another person on the organization chart that had the title of Director of Construction. The Vice President had me reporting directly to him instead of what made sense to be the Director of Operations. I showed up on organizational chart as Operations Manager/Business Development.
It became clear I was hired for my technical knowledge in the business, but to be used as a woman to open new doors with potential clients. I never got to perform the position of Operations Manager.
I received excellent ratings on my performance review. In the past 4 months the company was restructured twice leaving me in Business Development. The latest restructuring pushed me and others out the door with a reduction of force. Meanwhile, a gentleman brought in to help with sales became the VP of Operations. Passed over by a male in the company that hasn't produced any sales.
Do I have grounds to retrieve monetary value for the money I lost leaving other company? 401k match, performance bonuses, etc? What about being released so quickly after promising me long term position?

Agree with most likely no. An offer letter (if that is all you have) generally doesn't rise to the level of a binding employment contract. Of course, you are free to take any offer letter & whatever else you might have to an employment or contract attorney for review.
