I am trying to see if anyone would know an outcome of a situation that I had gotten into. OVer a month ago I was in an accident and the cops were taking a little too long to show up and I had to leave. The person spoke no english that I hit and I left him all my information and i thought he understood that I was leaving. I have a court date in a week and I am trying to see what may happen to me

It depends on the laws of your state and the amount of damage to the vehicles. If you were at fault and your insurance company has taken care of all claims, you may be able to get a dismissal. You will need a notarized statement from your insurance company to show the prosecutor.

This might lead to a suspension of your license so you need to consult a local attorney.

What state did this occur in? And what specific code section are you charged with violating?

If you can show that you did, in deed, provide the information to the other party as required by your state's law, then the hit-and-run charge might be dropped. Without knowing the state or the code section you are accused of violating, it's impossible to do more than speculate.

Also, how were you charged? Did they come to your home? Call you by phone? Did someone ever explain to you what you did that led to the charge?

I live in Tampa Fl and the office called me on the phone from the number that I left the guy I hit. The next day I was brought a ticket to pay for causing the accident and then the one to apear in court. I am not sure where to find the code I violated.

Okay ... so, you were cited for the cause of the collision, and NOT for a crime of hit and run? That's a different matter.

If FL is like CA I suspect you are required to provide contact information, driver's license information, registration information for your car, and insurance information. If you failed to leave that info then you might very well be charged with hit and run.

Actually I was charged for the accident and with leaving the scene of the accident. SO that is why I am trying to figure out the worst case scenario.
