briefly, while staying in UK on holiday, the cottage owner subsquently (after departure) sent an email accusing us of minor damage to a table. Same was denied by self by email. Now the threats of legal court summons are coming. Damage is less than 150USD. Since I do not live in UK (although have UK passport), can I be taken to (presume) small claims court? Do I have to travel to UK to defend myself? Can they summon a non resident? Do I ignore this minor issue? Any advice would help? (its not the money its the principle of the action I am against).

I don't know the court or the rules there. I'm guessing it's probably similar to the US - you can only sue someone in small claims court if they can be served within the county or local area of the court. Regarding jurisdiction to serve you - why not wait until you have something to worry about? It's $150 and there is still the burden of proof for the cottage owner to prove you did the damage. I don't know what the facts are that may make this a challenging case to prove. Good luck.
