Here's my problem. Where I live the is a $100.00 per year maintenance fee thats suppose to be paid by March 13 of every year. up until this year I had paid it on time. this year, it did not get paid on time. I thought the wife paid it and vice versa. with out so much as a phone call or letter ( we later found out the letter had been lost in the mail) the association turned us over to their lawyer for payment recovery. they in turn sent a letter dated May 12, that if this was not received by them within 10 days, they would put a lien on my house. well yesterday I received a letter from them saying the lien had been placed and now the amount I owed was $359.00 which according to them included late fees and their fee. It also stated that more fees and charges could and would be added as long as I refused to pay. I want to pay the $100.00. Thats not a problem. I just think after being late for the first time, that all these Legal procedings are a bit much, especially since I have many neighbors who have not paid for years and nothing like this has happened to them. Any sugestions?

After receiving the letter dated May 12, why didn't you pay the $100?

If you had 10 days warning of the lien, then I don't think there's any way you can argue that you shouldn't have to pay the additional fees now.
