I am a general contractor in pennsylvania, usa.I was helping another contractor on a job that consisted of repairing rotten wood on the exterior of a house. The contractor I was helping was working through a painter that was contracted to paint the exterior of the house.Payments to us were made by the painter. As the job progressed, much more rot was discovered. The home owner is complaining that they were not made aware of some of the extra time and materials needed to make the repairs, and that we took to long. They have not made any further payments according to the painter, and that they were only going to pay for some of the outstanding bill.Because I was a third party, with no signed contract, can I expect to get the shaft or paid?

Your contract is with the painter. Whether the homeowner pays up or not has, legally, nothing to do with whether you get paid. Of course, there is the practical matter that, if the owner doesn't pay, your painter isn't going to have the money to pay you. If you get stiffed, you may file a builder's or mechanics lien over the property.
