I have paid $130.00 less than the original invoice amount of $544.00 for a job not completed to my satisfaction. If they deposit the check can they sue me for the balance ?

That is entirely up to the person who claims you owe them the balance. Possibly, you get sued in small claims court. If you lose, you pay the judgment or risk having your wages garnished or being subject to other such measures.
