I have worked for this large retail co for 13 years, moved from ohio with 10 years under me to tennessee, 2 and half years at one location, transferring to a different store within the same co. as a member of management. I started the new position at the end of May,2012, I started out wonderfully, the first 3 weeks, within those 3 weeks I realized the of the people I was supervising, were running to my supervisor complaining, as the boss they had before me, completed all their work for them, this is not what the supervisor is suppose to be doing, I was doing what the job description calls for, making them unhappy, I had a notebook, which I kept on a room at my work area, I found out that 2 of them were taking important notes and papers from my notebook, and other items, and telling co workers, they were going to get me fired, because they didn't like me, so I brought this up to my manager who told me to put the notebook out in the open where camera's could see it, I didn't do this, but I did start locking it up in my locker. I went from great, to awful in a months time, due to the fact that my manager was telling me he had 2 open doors on me for not being tactful when I discuss things with my associates. I have never knowing been un tactful. My manager told myself and my boss that a certain dept manager was not doing the job she should be in her areas and we needed to coach her for that, when we left the meeting I told my manager that I would just have a talk with her first, before we had to coach her, he agreed with me, so later that same day, I had another supervisor, with the same ranking as me sit in on my talk. I called the dept manager back to have a talk, and she listened and agreed with all I said, I was very polite and as the other superviso commented "too nice", to the associate. I hugged her when we left, and thought that was the end of it. On the following monday however, the manager over the store informed me, she had come to him, telling him, I said, she didn't kno how to do her job, and she needed to fix her area immediately, and I was going to coach and fire her. I did not say any of that, however, he would not even allow me to speak, he informed me that if anyone was to get fired, he would fire me, his dept managers were not going anywhere and I was expendable, so I would be the one leaving. This made me feel threatned to the point that I decided I should not even have a talk with the dept managers when they don't do their jobs, I should just do it for them. He also on another occasion informed me that one of my Dept Managers,(which is very hateful),and never happy with anything, is SO good at her job that any notes that he,or anyone else gives her I shuld just do them since we don't want her upset. He also on another occasion told me to just not even talk to her, just let her do her own thing. I at this point am not sure what to do. On one evening I was there until 8pm and the new co manager called me and wanted me to move some things around in the dept managers area which I was told by the manager to not bother, I told him this and he wanted to know why, I tried to tell him, that she done such a good job in her area that I should leave her dept alone, he kept insisting I move the items, so I said, someone higher than you told me to leave her depts alone, he said I want to know who, I told him and then felt as though, I would regret it so I went and talked to the co about it and asked him not to say anything to the manager about what I had said, this is when I feel that the Co manager did in fact tell the manager because all the sudden I could not do anything right, and this continued until, I had gotten coached within another week I was given notes that NO ONE could have gotten done alone, I mean NO ONE. the last week I was there a lot of things happened, on the last day I was there, the afternoon I went in to work one of the Assistants I had open doored to told me notes I had to do, which I did with many interruptions and meetings, she told me all the area looked like garbage, and I needed to fix it immediately, everything I changed, she would come back and say she didn't like and make me change it, then wanted to know when I would be done, I said 2:30, she said, well if you are not, then you and I are going to the back, I didn't get finished until 2:40pm as at 2:15 she and the co manager she was working with called a meeting and I had to attend it, so later that evening, she and the co manager called me to the back office and began to coach me, this was my third, which meant the next one was fired. I sat there listening in disbelief as the two people in front of me yapping were the two I had open doored too a couple of weeks before. I said,I was done with the area, and was informed that the entire area should have only taken 1 hour to complete, not the 4 fours it took me, mind you, I was being pulled by customers, associates and such during this time also. I forgot, the assistant came up and looked at the area and said, OH I can tell you are so over your job , I said, um no I am zoning like you wanted me too do. The things I talked to her and the Co manager about they were using to coach me about. The Co manager said, now the other day when I gave you those notes you ended up staying 4 hours over your scheduled time to get done, and you only got done your pad partners notes, and you didn't have any of your Dept Managers do any of their notes, you did them, anyway, there is way more to tell, just running out of steam, do I have a leg to stand on in court, or am i just a whinner and need to go back to work?

You are just a whiner and need to go back to work.

Seriously, that huge block of text is extremely difficult to read. But the term, hostile work environment, has a very specific meaning under the law, and nothing that I was able to divine from what I was able to read before my eyes went buggy, comes even remotely close to meeting it.

If you want to edit your post to include some paragraphs and white space, I'll look at it again.

An employer doesn't need "cause" to fire you, or state a reason when you're terminated.

I wouldn't call you a whiner, but I'd advise you to look for another job.

The handwriting is on the wall.

Oh, and all those things you posted, provide nothing on which you could base a successful lawsuit.

You need to go to work. You also need to find another job. It is clear the operation is comfortable without you. You need to go where your abilities are wanted.

Thank You for your reply, I didn't think I could get beat down anymore than they have already done, but you have proved me very wrong. Have a great week.

Im really sorry that you had such a hard time reading my text, I was trying to give a good explanation to the whole picture for all of you, I surely

will make any adjustments to my writing skills, as I must have bored you to tears, remember that people DO have feelings, although I'm pretty

sure that makes NO difference to you. Have a great week.

I wanted to touch base with you on your reply to my post, I just wanted some opinions, since I have invested 13 years of my life to this very large mega retailer co, I'm sure you can guess the retailer. I haven't listed everything that happened, don't want to bore you, but I would like to tell you that the manager is on probation for his actions, and I did contact human resources, other managers higher than me have also walked out on him or put in 2 weeks notice, the manager was put on probation by the regional manager, so I'm asking, does this make ANY difference in my case or am I really that bad of an employee, don't hold back, not that you would anyway.

All I'm asking you to do is hit the return key a couple of times. Is that really such a big deal?

Here's the thing, the law is not concerned with what someone did to another party.

If you file a lawsuit, it concerns itself with the interaction between you and the other party.

I suggest you start looking for another job.

Or, sit down with HR or your manager and ask for feedback, honest feedback.

Tell the other person to be brutally honest and ask them to tell you what you need to do to be a better employee.

That often does yield results, but then you must do the work, make the changes, and not argue.

You came here for advice.

You received that advice.

You didn't like the advice.

So, you tried to argue and rebut the advice.

You can also sit down with a local attorney (or two) and ask them to evaluate your position and see if you have anything that could form the basis for a lawsuit.

That initial consultation is often free of charge, and will only cost you 15-20 minutes of your time to learn more about your rights.
